Church

Look it up!
Ephesians 1:16-23

Church is not a building. The word “church” is found over 100 times in English language Bibles and never once refers to a meeting place.

I Peter 2:4-9

Church is not a denomination. God does not have many different churches. He has his Church, the body of Christ – the fullness of him who fills all in all. This does not require all denominations to worship together all the time, rather that all God’s children strive for unity in Christ amidst the myriad expressions of church.

Ephesians 4:1-6

Church is not God’s “Plan B”. Church is not an afterthought in God’s plan, neither is it an optional part of our Christian walk. The church is God’s eternal purpose in Christ to make Him known.

Ephesians 3:7-12

Church is the body of Christ. The Bible uses different metaphors to draw a picture of who the church is, but the “body of Christ” certainly gets a lot of ink. Working together, we are to become the fulness of Him who fills all in all.

I Corinthians 12:12-26

How can I be part of the Church? To be a part of God’s church, you need to call out to Jesus to save you from your sins and surrender your life to his lordship. The Bible reveals that all of us have sinned (chosen ourselves over God) and fallen short of God’s glory, that the result of that sin is death (forever separated from God’s love and grace), but that God has given us life through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.

Psalm 51

The Purpose of the Church. The Church’s purpose can be organized, understood, and lived out through three interconnected roles:

  1. To Glorify God with all of who we are and all that we do
  2. To encourage one another, building each other up as we mature in our faith
  3. To minister reconciliation to our families, neighbors, friends, coworkers, communities, and ultimately to the world.
