The Cross Reference Book Club book for February: My Body is Not a Prayer Request by Amy Kenny.
From the back cover:
Much of the church has forgotten that we worship a disabled God whose wounds survived resurrection, says Amy Kenny. It is time for the church to start treating disabled people as full members of the body of Christ who have much more to offer than a miraculous cure narrative and to learn from their embodied experiences.
Written by a disabled Christian, this book shows that the church is missing out on the prophetic witness and blessing of disability. Kenny reflects on her experiences inside the church to expose unintentional ableism and cast a new vision for Christian communities to engage disability justice. She shows that until we cultivate church spaces where people with disabilities can fully belong, flourish, and lead, we are not valuing the diverse members of the body of Christ.

We look forward to hearing what you learned from reading this book at our next meeting on Saturday, February 25 at 9:30 AM at the Frater Library. Join the group and RSVP so that we know you’re participating. You can join the Book Club Group and RSVP in the App: Home>Connect>Groups or click here.
Looking for additional book recommendations? Check out this book list. It will keep growing through the months as we find more to add to it. We are also working on a list of coming Book Club books for the year, so keep an eye out for that in coming weeks!
We’re excited to see you at the next Cross Reference Book Club.

Your Love Awakens Me
Lord I Need You
Happy Day
Gone
Your Love Awakens Me
Verse 1
There were walls between us
By the cross You came and broke them down
You broke them down
And there were chains around us
By Your grace we are no longer bound
No longer bound
Pre-Chorus
You called me out of the grave
You called me into the light
You called my name and then my heart came alive
Chorus
Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens awakens awakens me
Your love is greater
Your love is stronger
Your love awakens awakens awakens me
Verse 2
Feel the darkness shaking
All the dead are coming back to life
I’m back to life
Hear the song awaken
All creation singing we’re alive
‘Cause You’re alive
Bridge
And what a love we’ve found
Death can’t hold us down
We shout it out
We’re alive ’cause You’re alive
Lord I Need You
Verse
Lord I come I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
And without You I fall apart
You’re the one that guides my heart
Chorus
Lord I need You oh I need You
Ev’ry hour I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You
Verse 2
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Where You are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Bridge
So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
Chorus 2
Lord I need You oh I need You
Ev’ry hour I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You
Happy Day
Verse 1
The greatest day in history
Death is beaten You have rescued me
Sing it out Jesus is alive
The empty cross the empty grave
Life eternal You have won the day
Shout it out Jesus is alive
He’s alive
Chorus
And oh happy day happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh happy day happy day
I’ll never be the same
Forever I am changed
Verse 2
When I stand in that place
Free at last meeting face to face
I am Yours Jesus You are mine
Endless joy perfect peace
Earthly pain finally will cease
Celebrate Jesus is alive
He’s alive
Bridge
Oh what a glorious day
What a glorious way
That You have saved me
And oh what a glorious day
What a glorious name
Gone
Verse 1
It wasn’t for nothing that you shed your blood
So I’m gonna live like my shame is gone
Won’t be shackled to the way I was
I’m gonna live like my chains are
Chorus
Gone gone
Now my sin is dead and gone
And I sing hallelujah
Done done
He is risen it is done
And I sing hallelujah
Verse 2
Praise is a weapon that will overcome
I’m gonna shout like the battle’s won
Fall back devil cause your time is up
I’m gonna live like the stone is
Bridge
How great the power of the blood
Oh oh
I am the righteousness of God
Oh oh
(Oh oh)
